Gangnam Seoul

Koreans eat cold soup, on the hottest summer days. The soup is refreshing and mild, unless we're talking namyeon: cold buckwheet noodles, with kochujang: red pepper paste. PHOTO: The white dish (upper right) is a soya bean based soup, thick and cold with noodles as seen in the cucumber variation.

The Coffee Bean is a gourmet chain in Korea, pricey at more than 5USD/drink. (Yes, I know it didn't originate in Korea, hence the link.)

Can you guess what this popular Fast Food restaurant is (above)?

I swear that I wasn't the least bit hungry until I saw that first picture. Here everything is so one flavor and nothing is hardly ever served as a side condiment. That is truly a dish for a queen. Thanks. MUD

Hi Mud,

The soups are "summer soup" in Korea. NOT SPICY at all! Your wife might enjoy ;)

The milky looking one in the upper right corner is soya bean cold soup with noodles. It tastes like thick soya milk.

Anyway ... yummy.

Sigh!!!!!

I miss Korea.

Wish I could a been there.

Have you tried kim-chi-ji-ga?

Or how about soon-tu-bu chi-ga?

Actually one of my favorites is ha-mel-tang.

Enjoy.

Eva, I believe the Coffee Bean is a chain in the US. I think it originated in LA. I used to go there when I was in LA all the time. I love their lattes. But you're right. It's ridiculously expensive.

Btw, I was reading your comments and someone mentioned you were going to write something about a good girl/bad girl hierarchy?!! Ok, THIS is something I'm interested in reading about. I would love to read a non-gyopo's perspective.

I live in Southern California and The Coffee Bean chain is alive and well here.
The fast food restaurant you show happened to be a staple food of my childhood. As an adult I find it to be way too greasy.

Yes K. I love those soups. Check out my "Food in Korea" link.

I don't think I've had ha-mel-tang yet.

KFC is soo gross, I think. And they treat their chickens horribly.

Jane, what's your 'take' on the good girl/bad girl thing... can you sum it up in a sentence? I was inspired to write about it before but now I'm afraid of generalizing/ stereotyping, being judgemental, whatever.

Jane Milton said...

Eva: Write about it! I really am very much interested in your POV. I don't think I can sum it up in a sentence, as I am a chatty Cathy, but I can sure write a post about it, but only if you write one as well. =) Them's the rules!

And even if there are stereotypes, if they are based on you're experiences, it gives me an idea of where/why such stereotypes can exist, if that is what they are. And, the beauty of it is that we can compare and contrast.

OK, this is a long comment. I hate those. If you still want my opinion, I'll be glad to share it with you. Cheers!!!

Eva: It's on like donkey kong! =) I'll probably post it within the next few days... when I'm bored at work.

Didn't realize the link re: Coffee Bean until today. My Bad.

I'm glad you like my blog. Warms the cockles of my heart. =)

Cheers, Jane.
