"Mom, I have a secret. I'm doing something a little... shocking before I leave Korea."
"What?"
"I don't want to say."
"Eva you have to tell me or I won't get to sleep tonight! Is it a good thing?"
"Not exactly."
"Is it a bad thing?"
"I don't think so. Listen Mom you might not even care."
"Probably not, so just tell me."
"I don't want people knowing yet."
"You won the lottery. You're not going back to University. You're pregnant. You're staying to work in Korea. You're in love, you're bringing somebody home?"
"(laugh) no."
"You're adopting a child."
"Are you serious Mom!?"
"You're gay. You're going to be on TV!"
"God. No Mom!"

PS- This picture makes my mouth water. Honey candy is, in my opinion, the most delicious Korean treat. It's 5 dollars for a small box, and usually made fresh from vendors at a booth. I like the peanut version best, made with honey and flour spun into thin threads.
tatoo!
ReplyDeleteNo, that would be a small deal (and something i'd never do anyway)
ReplyDeleteGood guess though ;)
The friend I'm staying with in Hong Kong also guessed "tatoo."
Being on TV would be my guess, too. Can't imagine!
ReplyDeletebungee jumping? =)
ReplyDeleteEva how can you leave us hanging like that??
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what your secret is... tell us soon!!
N
I know: You're going to cut off your hair! :/
ReplyDeleteI was going to say you got engaged, but that's not bad news, that's great news. I think I have engagement/wedding/babies on my mind. It must be something in the air.
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your question: I'll be back in DC by the new year. I'm excited and scared and just everything in between. Where are you going to school? And what will you be studying?
You're bringing home a cat.
ReplyDeletebungee jumping - my father did it once and got hurt! not for me.
ReplyDeleteTV - haha no.
Haircut - hmm, nobody would care if i got a haircut, me included.
Engaged- far from it
Cat- I'm an only child and my mom loved our cat. can you say jealousy? not bringing home a straggly Korean street cat
Wow Jane, by the new year... so soon! You're looking for work in the US now right?
I don't know if I'm going to blog about it! I'm a little bit chicken. We'll see...
I'm baffled.
ReplyDeleteEva is going to dye her hair black, cut it off so that's 2 inches short, bring home her Korean lesbian gf, adopt two of her ESL students, and announce the fact that she's preggers (father unknown) when she returns home to go bungee jumping with her mother.
ReplyDeleteHeh.
Oh and "honey candy" is called Dragon's Beard in HK and here in Vancouver.. from what I know of so far. It's neat watching them make it, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteDon't be chicken! Please tell us!
ReplyDeleteYou're such a tease! =)
ReplyDeleteKorean Canadian from Vancouver
This reminds me, did you ever get to the Red Light District in Suwon. We went at night and the girls were gorgeous! So exotic looking against the night. Hubby was too scared to take pictures!
ReplyDeleteyou're going to a jimjii bang(can't remember if you've done that already)? you're splitting up with your bf? or your bf is coming to korea for next year? you've decided not to go home? hmm can't think whats could be neither good nor bad and also something you don't want ppl to know, just tell us lol
ReplyDeleteHey Natasha : ) It is neat watching them make it!
ReplyDeleteOK yes call me a tease. I can take it. It's just that I so badly want to tell people, but it's not something to be proud of! It's my choice, but I'd rather wait to be scruitinized for my decision.
My Grandmother will be on the next flight to Korea to stop it from happening(she reads the blog). I'm going to wait until it's over. Then I'll blog. I do it November 1st.
i got it : plastic surgery:))))
ReplyDeletehahaha...your mom played the gay card pretty late in the game.
ReplyDeleteYou're gonna eat dog.
ReplyDeleteCarol
(i've enjoyed your blog!)
you're going skydiving?
ReplyDeleteTattoo of Kim Jong IL.
ReplyDeleteOh, Eva! You've got everyone's curiosity piqued! When are you going to reveal the big surprise? :)
ReplyDeleteIt isn't plastic surgery, is it?? All my Korean students keep telling me how 'common' plastic surgery is for females in Korea. I can't imagine you ever wanting plastic surgery though!!!
ReplyDeletePS. One of the Japanese teachers I taught with in Japan went to Korea to get a boob job. She said it was cheaper and no one knew her there. I was shocked to hear how eye-lid surgery and nose jobs, etc are not uncommon!
